Bangladesh High Court instructed Government to immediately transfer the murder case investigation of popular media journalist Golam Mostafa Sarowar [Sagar] and Meherun Runi to Rapid Action Battalion [RAB] after the investigation officers of police admitted their Zero achievement over the two months and a bit in the investigation. Court also advised formation of a high powered committee to monitor the progress of investigation. Court wanted to hear about the progress in 30 days. These developments amply demonstrate the unpardonable failures of Bangladesh police force and other related agencies of home ministry in positively investigating into such a major incident of crime that occurred in the heart of the city. The couple was brutally murdered by unknown assailants in their bedroom at Dhaka possibly at early morning of 11^th February, 2012.

Golam Mostafa Sarowar was a leading Energy Journalist [Editor of Web based Energy Magazine –Energy Bangla] and News Editor of Private TV Channel Machranga of Square Group. He earlier served as Senior Energy Reporter of Ittefaq, Sangbad. Meherun Runi was senior reporter of another private TV Channel ATN Bangla. The couple spent about 3 years in Germany when Sagar took up a job with Germany’s international broadcaster, DW. They returned to Bangladesh in May, 2011.

The failure of police investigators poses question about the seriousness of the government for finding out the killers and bringing them under justice. It sounds more ridiculous when Prime Minister herself announced of finding the killers within shortest possible time. Home Minister was one step advanced in announcing that the killers would be brought to book in 48 hours. Subsequently she and her unworthy police administration took time and again assured people and journalist communities of significant positive advancement. Shame on home minister, shame on police administration for the present state of investigation. Not to speak of arresting any suspect, police could not even establish any clue.

Meantime in absence of positive investigation process many quarter created rumors and gossips. Facebook, twitter and other social media also spread speculations. Some people said that Runi prepared an investigative report on alleged corruption of a ruling party MP which her TV Channel refused to telecast. She almost set up her husband Sagar to telecast it from his TV Channel. This was transferred to Sagar’s laptop which incidentally was lost along with Runi’s laptop and a mobile. Can this be a reason behind killing? Some speculations are also there that Sagar might have antagonized a section of terrorist groups in Chittagong hill tracts through his book and another planned publication. But all these are mere speculations. But authentic probe should look into all these.

The peaceful movement of the journalist community was put on a moratorium following a tea party of senior journo leaders with Home Minister. Journalists were on street agitations demanding justice done to all incidents of Journalist killing including Sagar-Runi murder. What Home Minister told Journalist leaders that pacified the leaders to put a halt to their agitation? It now appears after high court ruling that home minster’s assurances were mere blank fires. The police and intelligence agencies miserably failed throwing ink to government tall talks.

What may be the reasons behind governments hide and seek game in the investigation process of the gruesome murder of such a popular and non controversial journalist couple. Runi covered so many programs of PM Hasina. What words she now has for the innocent orphan child Megh? PM had the fortune of witnessing the trial and execution of verdict of killers of her parents, brothers and relatives. Why Megh cannot see the killers of his parent brought to book without delay and punished?

Expatriate Bangladeshis in many countries especially in Germany are still very vocal demanding justice into the murder case. Some international organizations are also monitoring the developments. Present government will lose lot of credibility and will definitely loose the sympathy of a greater section of neutral silent majority if any quarter of the government tries to shadow killers and try to put the investigation to deep freezer.

We the friends and well wishers of Sagar are ready to wait for years to see the justice done and the killers get deserved punishment.
