Let deceased Humayun Ahmed Rest In Peace

Humayun Ahmed, the doyen of Bangladesh expired while at treatment of stomach cancer at a New York Hospital and has been buried at his own created Nuhas Pally. For his immemorable creations,  stories , novels, dramas and movies he became a national icon and living legend. His premature death shocked and saddened his billions of admirers and well wishers in Bangladesh, West Bengal and his well wishers all over the world. Like the rest of Bangladeshis anywhere in the world we are deeply shocked at this national loss and wish her soul to rest in eternal peace.

Son of a martyred police officer father who studied Chemistry started his teaching profession in DhakaUniversity. He not only created renaissance among younger generation with his works but he also created many popular dramas and stories about our great liberation war. He was undoubtedly the best of both Bengal in his life time. Even the other great Sunil Gangopadhay had no hesitation in comparing and placing him above the Icon Sharat Chandra Chattapoddhay. At 64 perhaps he left a little too early. He possibly had little more to give to his favorite nation. But what man proposes God disposes.

But we have observed with deep regret that some controversies have unfortunately surfaced regarding his death, treatment and about his burial. There are conflicting reports about his death. Some persons are telling that due to lack of fund his cancer treatment was discontinued in the leading cancer hospital. Humayun family earlier did not accept the spontaneous financial assistance of PM Hasina. He returned to Bangladesh after first round of treatment and looked fresh in his original smiling best. But he went back to USA for the next round of treatment but not to the original hospital. His second wife, in laws had more say in her treatment. Some reports show that he slipped for his chair and stitches of his earlier operation were split open and his treatment was delayed a little bit. He grew some infection and died from it. We are not very sure of truth behind such gossips. But we sincerely hope that this was not the case. But we like to know why he has to change hospital? Why he could not continue treatment in one of the very best cancer hospital? Who has the answer for it?

Bipasha, Nova, Sheela and Nuhash — children of illustrious writer and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed –– visited the grave of their father at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur Friday afternoon.

The second controversy is regarding the unnecessary dispute of his place of burial. Shaon his second wife claimed that Humayun in his last days expressed his desire to be buried at Nuhash polly named after his eldest son from divorced first wife. Some of his well wishers who were very much involved with him over the last days in New York however denied of hearing any such last minute wish of the great man. Many claim that even Shaon did not tell this before bringing his dead body back to Bangladesh.Humayun is a national treasure. Billions of Bangladeshis would love to visit his grave and offer fateha. His daughters, eldest son [Nuhash] brothers were not willing for the burial at Nuhash away from the city. The other options were Dhaka University Campus or Shaheed Buddhijibi Graveyard.

However, before the controversy could grow bitter PM had to intervene through Jahangir Kobir Nanak and family members agreed to bury the great at Nuhash Polly. Like Bangabandhu another great of the greats slept in eternal peace far away from the madding crowd of Dhaka City. We hope with this all controversy will buried as well. We do not like the Shakespearean Episode which told, “Friends Romans and Countrymen, we have come to bury Ceasar and not to praise him. The evils that the men do live after him and the good goes with the bones.” watch?v=tP2e8wSMAv0

Our idol entertained billions with his wonderfully crafted literatures. His original creation inspired millions. Let only his good words live after him. We know about his family issues. These were his personal matters. Let us not dig into it as these will definitely dishonor his soul. No one should have any ill motive to grab his wealth and properties. If there any such attempts from any quarter government and the people must stand beside his orphan children. We know about some issues and situations. But please do not raise these now. Let the creator of many immortal stories, dramas and films leave in peace.
